HOW TO DELEGATE

Wheather you are corporate executive, retail manager or stay at home parent, delegating is acritical skill in persomal effectiveness. But for a variety reasons, it can be difficult to pull off. This article will help you address some of those reasons and delegate without being seen as a tyrannical pain.

1. Set your ego aside
A big mentaln road block to delegation is " if you want it done right, then do it yourself".You are probably the only person who can do it right at this very moment but if you take the time to train some one they can probly do it right too or even better than you. this is something you need to not only accept, but invite.

2. Stop waiting for Volunteer.
The fact is not everyone is sensitive and may be oblivious to what others are going through and thre is not much you can do to change them. Let go of any frustration you may have over people not ofering a helping hand. Remember it is ultimately your job to communicate your need.

3. Ask and you shall receive.
many people are uncomfortable asking for help. Perhaps they don't want to feel guity burdening others or feel shameful, as they are supposed to be albe to handle everything themself, or are proud of the strunggle and see it as a badge of honour and proof you are a noble human being. if you think asking for help is akind of weakness, you must get over it.

4. Delegate the objective not the procedure.
Set clear standards what kind of results you want. Show the person how you do it but tell them they can do it anyway they want as long as it is on time. Give them enough time not only to learn but also to experiment and innovate. Dont train them like a robots, train them like a human being like someone who can adapt and improve.

5. Allocate resoures necessary to complete the task.
You may have resources available thet are necessary to complete the task but the person given the task may not be albe to access them. Things like password protected data, specialised equipment. dont forget that person is likely time bound too. What work will they set aside or delegate in order to complete the task?

6. Be patient
The person whom you delegate will make mistakes. It is part of the learning process.Plan for it.Don't delegate a task assuming the person will execute it perfectly until they have a proven track record..If they don't perform under such unrealistic circumstances, that is your responsibility. At first it may slow you down but in the long run it will increase productivity if you have approached the whole thing with a positive and realistic attitude.

7. Implement backup plans and stand ready to jump in if things go wrong.
Know what will happen if a deadline is missed. People are only human and technology fail sometimes. Let your delegate trust in the fact if something comes up , you will understand and help him or her meet that deadline. If your delegate fears he will blamed, far more time will be spent in defensive mode then actually completing the task.

8. Recognise your helper when it counts.
Delegating tasks to some one else is necessary if you are to take more responsibility.recognise and praise other people's efforts on your behalf.
